ABOUT | Biography
Marco Benedetti is a Swiss photographer with Italian roots. He has been active behind the camera since as early as 1990 aside from his numerous other professions: mechanical engineer, IT engineer, project manager, graduated in visual communication and new media, leading his own IT company and his own professional photo agency and last but not least practising and teaching Japanese Martial Arts (Karate, Kobudo, Iai-Do, Tai-Jitsu).
He studied photography very late in Milan, Italy where he used to live with his uncle and grandparents. But this was more to confirm theoretically what he achieved by inspiration and intuition.
He loves using available light always when possible, putting more importance to the excellent management of his analogue and digital cameras than to external props and photo retouching. The vision of the final artwork grows in his brain and mind long before the shooting. He also prefers not to shoot if all elements needed on location are not present and reachable. It is also a matter of feeling the right moment, of working with strong emotions and deep stories.
At the beginning of his photographic career, he indulged mainly in sports photography for several international martial arts magazines. Later on, inspired by his deep appreciation for beauty and emotions, he extended his work to different aspects of people photography, mainly portrait, fashion and artistic nude. Nowadays, he is still working in all these areas in parallel, providing sports images for Swiss photo agencies and actively pursuing his own artistic projects.
He is also working with own developed processes, digitally and analogue to create complex mixed-media Artworks: Mixing often painting and photography.
In the last 15 years he was nominated and awarded hundreds of times at international awards (photography and art) and received several times Merit of Excellence and Outstanding Achievement Awards.
